Vacancy: Administrator and Caseworker

Job Description

Working For: Jude Kirton-Darling MEP and Paul Brannen MEP (North East of England)

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

The Administrator and Caseworker will be expected to perform the following duties:

Hours: Full Time (35 hours per week)


Opening and dispatching mail
Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence
Liaise with external suppliers when required regarding office supplies
Liaising with the MEPs office in Brussels and Strasbourg to ensure the smooth running of the office

Diary management

Manage the MEPs' diary commitments in the North East region
Assisting with arrangements for events
Handling administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public and organisations
Prepare briefings in advance of upcoming meetings
Managing MEPs travel arrangements in the region


Dealing with standard queries from members of the public
Gathering relevant information to assist with resolving cases
Responding to enquiries by telephone and e-mail, passing on queries to other team members/MEPs as appropriate
Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
Retain records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
Analyse patterns of enquiries and produce reports on the enquiries
Undertake research, usually from readily available sources, on straightforward subjects
Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
Develop and maintain current knowledge of what is happening in the European Union
Ensure enquiries are dealt with sensitively and confidentially
Work with colleagues in Brussels to further casework in the Parliament through questions, letters or petitions

Experience of diary management

Ability to work under pressure

Experience of working in a pressured environment

Capable of using Microsoft Office suite

Experience of using relevant IT in an office environment

Ability to write reports and briefings

Experience of writing reports and briefings on a range of topics

Experience of working within a team

Experience of working in an office environment

Ability to undertake research on a wide variety of topics

Experience of undertaking casework on behalf of individuals

Ability to deal with sensitive issues

Experience of undertaking casework on behalf of individuals

Flexible approach to work

Experience of working in a political office
